Some exchanges close early the day before major holidays. Check your broker for exact times.
US stock markets (NYSE, NASDAQ) are open Monday through Friday, except on federal holidays. Check the holiday calendar above to see if tomorrow is a market holiday. If it is a regular weekday, markets open at 9:30 AM Eastern Time.
It depends on the exchange. NYSE and NASDAQ open at 9:30 AM Eastern Time (3:30 PM CET in summer). The London Stock Exchange opens at 8:00 AM GMT. Most continental European exchanges (Euronext, XETRA, Borsa Italiana) open at 9:00 AM CET. Tokyo opens at 9:00 AM JST.
NYSE and NASDAQ close at 4:00 PM Eastern Time (10:00 PM CET in summer). European exchanges close at 5:30 PM local time (4:30 PM for the LSE). Tokyo closes at 3:30 PM JST with a lunch break from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM. After-hours trading on US markets runs until 8:00 PM ET.
No. All major stock exchanges worldwide are closed on Saturdays and Sundays. The exception is CME Group futures, which reopen Sunday at 6:00 PM ET, giving traders early access to price movements before Monday.
No. NYSE, NASDAQ, the London Stock Exchange, and most European exchanges (Euronext, XETRA) are all closed on Good Friday. It is one of the few holidays observed across both US and European markets. Trading resumes the following Monday.
US stock markets (NYSE, NASDAQ) are closed on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the third Monday of January. European and Asian exchanges trade normally, so there is still market activity during this US holiday.
No. Each country follows its own holiday calendar. For example, US markets close on Thanksgiving but European exchanges remain open. Conversely, European markets close on Easter Monday while US exchanges are open. Asian exchanges have unique holidays too, such as Golden Week in Japan and Lunar New Year in Hong Kong and Shanghai.
Pre-market (4:00-9:30 AM ET) and after-hours (4:00-8:00 PM ET) are extended trading sessions on US exchanges. They allow trading outside regular hours, but with lower volume and wider spreads. Most European exchanges do not offer extended hours for retail traders.
The highest volume and tightest spreads occur during the overlap between major sessions. For European traders, the window from 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM CET (summer) is particularly active because both US and European markets are open simultaneously.
